Respite care
Respite care provides care for carers in providing you with the support and occasional breaks that you need to continue caring for loved ones. Respite care provided for you in your home and may include:
- care for your loved one
- assisting you with household tasks
- giving you the opportunity to take a break
Sometimes carers need to be cared for too! This is where respite care can help those carers who need to take a break and attend to other tasks and activities. We can be as flexible as your plans. Maybe you just need a few hours off to have lunch with friends, or book that appointment that’s been put off for months. Here are a couple of stories of how two of our clients have been helped by respite care.
One of our carers has shared his story:
Bill’s experience:
“We didn’t have any children and now that Kath has dementia there was no one I could count on for any help. Then someone gave me a brochure about respite care. Never heard of it!
Today I couldn’t keep on caring without that break. They take her out for a few hours and bring her home safely. She has a great time with the gang. We have all become such good friends.
That means I can do what I want to do – hair cut, a bit of shopping, go to the TAB . I really missed seeing my friends, and now I get to see them every week again.”
If an extended break is needed, BlueCross can help through our residential aged care services located at 22 residences across Melbourne where we offer overnight care to your loved ones in luxurious environments with staff who will ensure that care is of the highest quality.
